Furniture Prototype, 2010

The X-Me Collection is a furniture concept developed by the question;

"Why does Nordic furniture design lack ornaments?".

In the project, Nordic furniture designs were compared to the adorned Rococo period of decorated upholstered furnitures.

The goal was to find a balance between the two different aesthetics, to bring the best from both.

The result was oversized cross-stitch ornaments in knitted wool and a braided birch wood construction for the couch and the lounge chair, which together created "The X-Me Collection".

The balance between the two aesthetics became reversed; the construction materials birch wood and wool in Nordic style and the shape of the. furniture got inspired from the Rococo style.

The ornaments are inspired by the Rococo, but the cross stitches make it minimalistic Scandinavian and the craftsmanship brings them both together.
